- I have seen the 4000 schematics and have seen that there is more than
- one expansion to enhance the motherboard. Firsly, most users of an
- A4000 wuld know just how slow IDE HDD's seem to be and how fast they
- can run on a pc. This is because the AMIGA is not using the other
- modes that the IDE standard can do eg. mode 2,3 HOWEVER it is
- supported. Also the lovely 8Meg jumper setting for Chip ram. This is
- also supported on the motherboard but I believe that the current uart
- chip will not de-code the adresses. If this is true could a chip
- upgrade be possible, or is it an OS problem as well. I know that the
- IDE could be made to function, but is it supported in the OS. This is
- not all. There seemed to be adresses for more Fast ram, though this
- to be through Zorro3 slots. If this was true, would it also be
- possible to have expanded Fast Ram through Zorro3?. This macheine must
- have had a lot of future thought put into it, will we see it grow, or
- was it to just make us go WOW. I know that through the CPU expansion
- slot a Warp card will for example have its own onboard 32 bit ram, But
- I was lead to believe that the standard 040 25 MHZ is limmited to 16MB
- ram on the motherboard. Why was it limmited to something so small for
- such a "Large" CPU. I have also overclocked the CPU by using external
- cristal ocilators, but i have only got it to 31. MHZ without damage,
- is it possible to go any further?. I suppose what I am asking is will
- the 4000 be expanded or will it be put to the "back burner" to make
- way for the "walker" I heard the Power PC project is a CPU board
- replacement for the 4000, This will not remove the memory problems or
- HDD problems. I was also hoping the I/O in general would be able to be
- improved, maby new CIA chips?, and rs232 driver chips?. Fasted disk,
- serial, and paralell would be fantastic infact faster I/O in general.
- A new plug in CPU board won't do this will it?. I could be completely
- off the track here because I am going off what I have heard. Please
- parden the spelling. And thanks for reading this.
- Adam.
